Articulated Dump Trucks (ADTs) are essentially very large, heavy-duty dump trucks for transporting loads over rough terrain. What makes articulated dump trucks (also known as articulated haulers) “articulated” is the “articulation point”, where a separated operator cab and trailer meet. These two disjointed parts of the truck mean the trailer can pivot and sway from the cab on rough terrain, but it also lends itself to renovation, allowing hire companies to convert the trailer into a concrete mixer, container truck, hook loader, crane truck, woodchipper platform, or semi-hauler trailer while still retaining that “articulated” quality.
